Seeing the World Through New Eyes: Our New Book Release

We’re so excited to share some big news—our second book in the Bouncy Bear and Curious Cat series is finally here!

ree

It’s called The Adventures of Bouncy Bear and Curious Cat: A Perspective-Taking Journey, and it’s written by me, Yrenka, together with my son, Gavin. Writing this series has been a labor of love, blending my professional work in behavioral support with our shared goal of helping kids grow into kind, confident, and thoughtful people.

Why We Wrote This Book

One thing I’ve seen again and again, both as a parent and in my work with children, is how important it is to be able to step into someone else’s shoes. Perspective-taking doesn’t always come naturally, and for many kids, it takes practice. But when children learn to see the world through another person’s eyes, it changes everything: friendships deepen, conflicts shrink, and empathy blossoms.

That’s the heart of this story.

What You’ll Find Inside

In this adventure, Bouncy Bear and Curious Cat wander through the forest, meeting new friends and discovering that everyone sees things a little differently. Along the way, they learn that slowing down, listening, and trying to understand others can turn tricky moments into opportunities to connect.

We also added some interactive activities at the end of the book—fun little exercises that give kids a chance to practice empathy and perspective-taking in their everyday lives. These are the same kinds of skills I encourage in my work, but presented in a way that’s playful, simple, and child-friendly.

Building on the First Adventure

If you’ve read our first book, A Flexible Thinking Journey, you know that these characters are all about growth. In that story, kids learned how being flexible can turn “sticky” problems into new adventures. This new book builds on that idea, showing how empathy and perspective-taking are just as important for growing healthy social skills.

This series is part of our bigger vision, The Social Skills Projects, where we combine Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to create tools that really support children, especially those with autism, in ways that are engaging and accessible.

Why This Means So Much to Us

This isn’t just a book project, it’s personal. As a mom and professional, I’ve seen firsthand how small, intentional lessons can make a big difference for kids. And having Gavin co-create these stories with me makes it even more meaningful. We hope that families, teachers, and kids will not just enjoy reading these books but will also use them, to spark conversations, to practice skills, and to build stronger connections.
