📣 The ABA Gauntlet™ Pilot Has Officially Begun

Updated: Nov 4

Burnout doesn’t just happen in the field. It happens because of the field. For years, I’ve watched brilliant clinicians — people who dedicate their lives to helping others change behavior — quietly run out of reinforcement.

The long hours. The emotional load. The constant demand to stay composed, data-driven, and “on” — even when the reinforcement schedule is running dry. That’s why today’s announcement feels different.

Because this isn’t just another tech launch. It’s a moment to say: we deserve better contingencies, too.

🌿 What We’re Building

We’ve officially launched the ABA Gauntlet™ Copilot — a next-generation resilience and leadership tool designed exclusively for RBTs and BCBAs. It’s now being tested internally within Sunderlin Behavioral, where our team is exploring how AI can be used ethically and behaviorally — not to replace humans, but to reinforce them. This Copilot is grounded in behavioral science and designed to help professionals manage the same contingencies they coach others through every day:

🧩 What It Does

  • Supports emotional regulation and professional composure

  • Strengthens communication, accountability, and leadership habits

  • Helps clinicians reconnect with purpose — before burnout begins

This isn’t therapy. It’s the applied science of professional sustainability.

⚙️ Why It Matters

The turnover rates in our field aren’t a mystery anymore. We’re asking humans to maintain compassion under extinction conditions — with minimal reinforcement and constant exposure to challenge. We can’t keep calling it “burnout.” At this point, it’s a systemic pattern of behavioral drift. The ABA Gauntlet™ Copilot exists to address that. It teaches the same principles we apply to behavior — shaping, reinforcement, self-management — but in a way that clinicians can use for themselves.

When you help people every day, it’s easy to forget you’re one of them. This tool is a reminder that you are part of the reinforcement system, too.

💡 What’s Next

Phase one of the pilot is running now through Q4 2025 at Sunderlin Behavioral. We’re gathering feedback, refining prompts, and ensuring the Copilot feels human — not clinical, not corporate. In 2026, we’ll open access to other ABA teams ready to bring behavioral intelligence into staff wellness and leadership training. If your organization is struggling with turnover, burnout, or leadership gaps, reach out. We’re quietly building the next evolution of tools designed to change that.

“You can’t shape the world’s behavior if your own reinforcement schedule is running on extinction.”

Understanding Burnout

Burnout is more than just feeling tired. It’s a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged and excessive stress. This stress can stem from various sources, including work demands, emotional strain, and lack of support. Understanding burnout is crucial for preventing it.

Signs of Burnout

Recognizing the signs of burnout can help you address it before it becomes overwhelming. Common signs include:

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Irritability

  • Decreased performance

  • Feelings of helplessness

Strategies to Combat Burnout

  1. Prioritize Self-Care: Make time for activities that recharge you. Whether it’s a hobby, exercise, or relaxation, self-care is essential.

  2. Set Boundaries: Learn to say no. Protect your time and energy by setting clear boundaries at work and home.

  3. Seek Support: Talk to colleagues, friends, or professionals. Sharing your feelings can lighten the load.

  4. Practice Mindfulness: Engage in mindfulness practices like meditation or deep breathing to help manage stress.

  5. Stay Connected: Build a support network. Connection with others can provide comfort and understanding.

The Role of Technology

In today’s world, technology can play a pivotal role in managing burnout. Tools like the ABA Gauntlet™ Copilot can help professionals navigate their emotional landscape. By providing support and resources, technology can enhance resilience and well-being.

Conclusion

Burnout is a significant challenge in our field, but it doesn’t have to define us. With tools like the ABA Gauntlet™ Copilot, we can create a healthier work environment. Let’s prioritize our well-being and support each other in this journey. Together, we can thrive and make a difference.
